A Reminder to Get In Your Body

self-care Apr 13, 2022

Just a reminder that even in the midst of chaos and overwhelm…or maybe especially in the midst of chaos and overwhelm, it's okay to take a break, to breathe, to enjoy yourself.

A lot of us are feeling the urgency of the moment. With the war in Ukraine getting so much airtime (there are at least 5 other wars going on that aren’t getting coverage), national and local politics being a virtual and sometimes in-person hatefest, and so many of us still social distancing, it makes sense if you feel unsettled. I feel it.

How do we deal with these emotional pulls that keep us hypervigilant, particularly when we’re aren’t doing the usual things that keep us connected? By getting out of our heads and into our bodies.

I’ve been taking walks and paying attention to the signs of spring, really noticing the changes in the trees and flowers. Take a look!

On the warmest days, I’ve started sitting in the sun with my eyes closed. One day I did it for 30 minutes and I was fidgety and anxious. Another day I lasted almost an hour feeling nothing but bliss. But I’m giving myself space and grace to breathe and settle into my body. Pushing when I’m on overload won’t make things better.

I invite you to do the same. Breathe through your belly. Look at the sky. Look at nature. Take a walk. Sit in the sun. Hug a tree. Be quiet and get in your body. You’ll feel better.
